A Cuddle Cot in Torben’s Name
Story
As Torben’s first birthday approaches we have decided to hold a fundraiser in the hopes that we can provide a Cuddle Cot for other families who tragically loose their babies.
Each day in Australia, six babies are stillborn and a further three babies die each day before their first birthday. These figures do not include the precious babies who are stillborn before 20 weeks gestation. A cuddle cot is an invaluable support resource for bereaved parents before they leave the hospital without their baby. It is a cooling system that has been designed to fit within a small cot and lies beneath their baby. It enables families to spend as much uninterrupted time as they need without the worry or distress to keep handing their baby back to hospital staff.
When Torben passed away we weren’t able to access a Cuddle Cot because it was already being used by another bereaved family. Being able to spend some more time with him before saying goodbye would have been incredible, we want to make sure that no other families are in the situation we were... under a time limit.
All donations are tax deductible and every cent counts towards this important cause. We will be doing some more fundraising over the next year. We thank everyone for their ongoing support xx
UPDATE: Thanks everyone for their kind and generous donations. We have had some information shared with us in regards to how many Cuddle Cots Lismore Base actually have. We were told they only had the one where in fact they have 2 and a 3rd is soon to be delivered meaning they are likely to not need another. This may mean that the Cuddle Cot won’t be placed at Lismore Base as we had hoped, we are working with Bears of Hope with the hope that it can be placed locally. If not it will be placed somewhere in Australia that it is desperately needed!
