As many of you know, Barclay and I had a little boy, Lachlan Scott Hamish Dixon in August 2022. He was perfect but heartbreakingly, he died in our arms shortly after birth. This was the saddest experience of our lives, and we miss him every day. 

One of the greatest gifts we received when we were faced with leaving the hospital without our Lachie, which felt entirely wrong and against the natural order of things, was the presence of a cuddle cot. 

The cuddle cot is a cooling system that lay beneath Lachie within his bassinet. It enabled our family to keep him close, to take him home for a few days and to create beautiful memories, spending as much time as we could with our son before saying goodbye. You are supposed to bring your baby home, and we were able to (albeit not as we intended) with the cuddle cot. 

I felt this aided us immeasurably in our processing of the unthinkable and our journey of grief. I was saddened to hear that not all maternity facilities have this resource available. 

Many families experience the loss of their baby in Australia each year. It is an incredibly traumatic time for parents - a time when they require loving support and care.

I am fundraising for a cuddle cot to be donated to an Australian hospital, funeral home or hospice to support bereaved families in those crucial days after the loss of their baby.
