Story
Our son, Elijah Alexander Lotz was stillborn on 15 March 2025. Elijah had Down Syndrome and his little heart could no longer help him grow anymore.
We were able to hold and cuddle him and tried to fill a lifetime of love and memories into 2 1/2 days with Elijah. Unfortunately, we didn’t have access to a Cuddle Cot, which meant we were placed in the heartbreaking situation of handing our baby to a funeral home earlier than we would have liked.
We are raising funds to provide a cuddle cot in Elijah’s name. It is our hope that anyone who experiences this unimaginable loss will have access to a cuddle cot. This special cooling system allows families to keep their baby close and create precious memories during those tender moments before saying goodbye. It removes the distress of interrupted separation, allowing parents to cherish every moment without the worry of having to hand their baby back to staff throughout each day.
While we hope that no other person or family ever has to experience the heartache of losing a child, make funeral arrangements and grieve a loss that can sometimes not be comprehended – our family hope that through a Cuddle Cot that other grieving parents and families will have an extra few days together to say goodbye.

We provide exclusive and invaluable support programs that include a credible foundation of parent led and psychologist facilitated support groups, private online peer to peer support communities, phone, face to face, online and email counselling and annual community events that remember individual baby’s and recognize their parents love. Bears Of Hope comfort, acknowledge, inform, empower, and guide families during their time of loss and beyond.
As a registered non-profit organisation we are dedicated to the care of others and reinvesting our finances and resources to ensure the mental health needs and wellbeing of parents are being met and embraced for as long as as required.
