Sonny William Johnson
Story
Two years ago today we said hello and goodbye to our first child Sonny, who was stillborn. The heartbreak was unimaginable and felt impossible to surpass. Without the help of our incredible support team I’m not sure how we would have survived.
As much as we wish no family ever had to experience this pain, tragically 6 babies are stillborn every day in Australia.
When your baby dies suddenly during pregnancy you lose so much. One of the most painful losses is having no happy memories with your child, which makes remembering them even more painful.
We were very fortunate that I gave birth to Sonny at the Royal Hospital for Women where they have cuddle cots. A CuddleCot is a cooling system that lays beneath the baby inside a bassinet, enabling families to spend precious days with their baby, before having to say goodbye. We were able to cuddle Sonny, read him books, sing to him, making treasured memories for 4 days after he was born. We cannot express how much this time meant to us.
CuddleCots cost $6500 each and not all hospitals have access to them. In honour of Sonny’s birthday this year Ollie and I are hoping to gift a hospital a CuddleCot so grieving families can have the same opportunity we did, the gift of a little bit of time. We would love you to join us in raising money for this important service.
