For Natalie & Hannah

We lost Natalie at 21+5 in 2009 and her little sister Hannah, a twin, at 31+4 in 2021. This year, while we are in the most important month for pregnancy and infant loss, I have decided to start the process to raise enough money for a cuddle cot. Cuddle cots are an extremely important in elongating the time parents spend with their baby, the time to say goodbye, the time to spend with them, hold them, change their nappy, take photos. If it weren’t for a cuddle cot, I wouldn’t have had 3 nights with Hannah once she passed and we wouldn’t have been fortunate to have the time to have a small ceremony and baptise her. We didn’t have one with Natalie, sadly, our time with her was much shorter but because we had one with Hannah, we saw even more, their importance.

Many families experience the loss of their baby in Australia each year. It is an incredibly heartbreaking and traumatic time for parents - a time when they require loving support and care.

I am fundraising for a cuddle cot to be donated to an Australian hospital, funeral home or hospice to support bereaved families in those crucial days after the loss of their baby.  A cuddle cot is a cooling system that lays beneath the baby within a bassinet. It enables families to keep their baby close and create beautiful memories, spending as much time as they wish with their baby, before saying goodbye. This reduces the worry or distress of separation to keep handing their baby back to staff.

Raising awareness and remembering my girls is something I try for every day but nothing I do ever seems enough and I will always want to do more. Giving back to a foundation that helped us through our toughest of times, by providing a cuddle cot, a teddy in remembrance, a support pack for the early days and ongoing support in these later ones, is a start.
