We have all spoke the words ‘No parent should ever have to lose their child’.

Unfortunately, it’s not something we truly think about until it happens to us.

We lost our rainbow baby, Asher Zach Ryan at 19 weeks + 3 days.

4 days short of being registered as a stillbirth but, he was still ‘a birth’, still very much a perfectly formed little person. Still very much loved.

We were shattered; our world had collapsed. In a birthing suite full of labouring mothers, we felt so alone. But we weren’t alone. Thousands of grieving parents before us have used their love and pain to help families like us through donations and charities.

The most invaluable gift we received was time. We were fortunate to birth Asher in a hospital with a Cuddle Cot, a cooling system that extends the time families have with their baby through preservation. This allowed us 13 precious hours with Asher to create memories and say hello and goodbye. For some families, time given together is days.

Cuddle Cots have only existed for the past 6 years and cost roughly $6000. They are NOT government funded.

With only 600 in Australia including Tasmania there are hundreds of hospitals, hospice and funeral homes in need and families everywhere being robbed of time, love and memories.

Without people in need, thinking of people in need these cots wouldn’t exist.

Up to 110,000 known miscarriages, yearly. Pregnancy loss before 20 weeks.

1 in every 135 pregnancies that reach 20 weeks and beyond will end in a stillborn, 6 angels a day.

2.3% per 1000 births result in neonatal death, passing within 28 days of life. Roughly 6,600 yearly.

117 little lives lost yearly to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
