The Healey Family
The Healey Family
Story
The Last Cuddle
It has been almost 6 months since we lost Phoebe.
To the outside world, our daughter Phoebe is a statistic, an unknown face, an uncomfortable conversation, a sad story. What happened to Phoebe is a devastating reality for a lot of Australian families. To us, her family, she is our 3rd child, a face we know and love as much as Emmy and Flynn’s, a name we wish we could say more often, she is cherished and loved.
On 11-08-20 she was born at 21+2 weeks gestation, measuring 25cm and weighing 365gms. She looked just like her siblings. In the immediate aftermath of losing a baby this far along you are acutely aware that amongst the anguish you are feeling there is only a short window of time to shower your baby in all the love you hoped to give over a lifetime.
We spent time with Phoebe after she passed, we spent that time memorising her beautiful face to preserve it in our hearts forever, holding her hand, having as many cuddles as we could. That precious time was extended thanks to the cuddle cot. A cuddle cot is a cooling cot to place your baby in when you need to rest and extends that time with them that you never get again. The cot allows your baby to stay in your hospital room or even sometimes taken home for a short while to allow grieving families time with their baby. It minimises the unnecessary stress of separation when baby would traditionally be taken away when parents are resting.
In honour of our Phoebe we are hoping to raise funds to purchase and donate a cuddle cot to a hospital or like facility which can be used by families like ours to have time with their still babies, to grieve, to say goodbye and have one last cuddle.
