Kai Hunter Black, Son of Simon & Kim

Story

A month has passed since we met our sleeping babe, Kai Hunter Black. Brought into the world 13 weeks too early after he had passed away in utero. We still have no answers as to why he left us so soon.

We were shocked, but now understand it’s not an uncommon occurrence. In Australia, 6 babies are stillborn everyday, another 3 babies die each day before their first birthday and a miscarriage occurs every 3.5minutes. One is four pregnancies end in loss.

When we found out in ED what had happened to Kai we felt awful and wanted the birthing process to be over and done with so quickly. Thankfully, the amazing midwives at the Mercy Hospital encouraged us to keep our options open throughout the process and we came away with memories and keepsakes we otherwise wouldn’t have. Kai was cleaned and dressed, had his big foot and hand prints taken, cuddled his teddies, modelled for the camera and rested in his cuddle cot for the day with us in our room. Without either the midwives or the cuddle cot we wouldn’t have the memories of Kai we now keep so closely to our heart.

We have decided a way we would like to honour Baby Kai is to raise money each year for a different charity, beginning at his birthday 17.7.2020 and to be completed by his due date 14.10.2020. This year we aim to fundraise $6500 for a cuddle cot provided by Bears of Hope.

We would love for your to donate towards this special cause, giving heartbroken parents time with their little one before they have to say goodbye.

Thank you for your generosity.

Six families a day experience the loss of their baby in Australia. It is an incredibly heartbreaking and traumatic time for parents - a time when they require loving support and care.

I am fundraising for a cuddle cot to be donated to an Australian hospital, to support bereaved families in those crucial days after the loss of their baby.  A cuddle cot is a cooling system that lays beneath the baby within a bassinet. It enables families to keep their baby close and create beautiful memories, spending as much time as they wish with their baby, before saying goodbye. This reduces the worry or distress of separation to keep handing their baby back to hospital staff.

I would love you to help me reach my goal of $6500, supporting this cause by making a donation of any amount, and please feel free to leave a message of support.
