Story
I will be running 11km (not much maybe – but I had Ava less than 3 months ago and live with cancer) in the Sutho2Surf. My goal is to fundraise $6,000 to buy and donate a ‘Cuddle Cot’ to a hospital that is in need of one.
A cuddle cot is a cooling system that lays beneath the baby within a bassinet. When a baby dies, there is a short window of time for a family to create memories, say hello and goodbye to their child and the lifetime they had dreamed for them.
Cuddle Cots enable family members to travel to visit and meet the baby, siblings to meet one another and even gives parents the option of taking their baby home (which we did). It’s about giving parents choices, and reassuring them that they can spend as much time as they need with their baby, without the fear of the baby needing to be cooled in a traditional mortuary away from them.
Ben, Ava and I were very fortunate to be at RPA Hospital in Sydney which had access to a Cuddle Cot, many hospitals don’t. Because we had the blessing of one, we want to now ‘pay it forward’ so future baby loss families also have this option if they choose.
$6,000 is A LOT of money, but also not much if shared. Any donation is so greatly appreciated and donated in honour of Ava, for a family in need.
Thank you,
With love from Ben, Amanda & Ava xxx
